About Me

Hi! I’m Leah! I graduated from the University of MN Duluth in 2004 with a degree in Environmental Studies and a minor in Spanish.  My passion for travel and adventure, instilled in me at a young age by my mother, inspired me to travel to Colorado after college where I worked as a horseback trail guide, a server, and in a ski shop to support my love of snowboarding.  After Colorado, I worked as a seasonal employee for the National Science Foundation at McMurdo Station in Antarctica where I helped scientists set up their research stations and taught cold weather survival skills for five seasons.  I also worked seasonally in Greenland as a carpenter supporting various research and science projects with Polar Field Services.  This seasonal lifestyle allowed me to travel between contracts, explore culture and geography and meet many unique, interesting and inspiring people along the way.  My world travel opened a window to cultural awareness and planted a seed for my appreciation and ongoing passion to continue educating myself and others.  In 2011 I discontinued the seasonal lifestyle and settled in Superior with my partner Josh. I currently work at Harbor City International School in Duluth as a special education paraprofessional. Art and creativity have played important roles in my personal, professional, and home life as a mom, along with teaching and education. Opening Creative C.A.T.S. is a place to share all of my passions with the Twin Ports community through hands-on activities.  Josh and I have two children who are the muses for Creative C.A.T.S.

It is a dream come true to have the opportunity to provide a creative space for the community to use their hands to create something memorable, connect with people, celebrate the natural beauty of the Twin Ports and participate in other opportunities that Creative C.A.T.S. will provide.
